- This is a problem that seems to crop up quite often, and
- I seem to not know the answer. I've just installed X on my
- Linux box and I've *almost* got it working. I'm using
- X386mono and 'startx' brings me into X windows and I've got
- a cursor which moves with my mouse and I can get the twm
- menu to come up with a mouse click. Everything fine to this
- point.
-
- However, whenever I try to start an X application (i.e.
- xterm), my machine chugs away for a second or two but then
- nothing happens. The process seems to just die. When I
- exit, I don't have any error messages on the VC.
-
- I've done 'mkfontdir /usr/X386/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi' and
- 'mkfontdir /usr/X386/lib/X11/fonts/misc', but I still am
- without working X clients. My guess is improper permissions
- somewhere (X386mono and xterm are both suid root).
-
- Can anyone help? Much appreciado,
-
