- Oh man, did I really screw things up.
-
- <wow, what news! sheesh>
- [Note: before story happened, the 'df' command produced the
- following screen:-
-
- Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on
- /dev/hda2 51675 49173 2502 95% /
- ]
-
- Anyway, I was sitting in front of the term, and said to
- myself, "Hey, why not install the TeX package now?"
-
- So I grab the set of disks and like did the usual
- "sysinstall -instdev /dev/fd1 -series t" and it then
- prompts for the t1 disk in fd1. Well, I put in the disk,
- and like everything goes according to plan, when it asks for the
- second disk. So I put the second disk in(of course, after I've
- removed the first one) and I press Enter.
-
- Then 'LO AND BEHOLD, things went crazy. It kept on throwing
- out these major "HD controller" errors.. and like, I started to
- panic! It first displayed(before the stream of errors) that
- my partition was full! <OH GOD! I fergot! I was at 95% full
- before I installed, or TRIED to install TeX>
-
- So I tried pressing CTrl-C, but the stream of error messages
- kept on coming as the HD whirled... so I LUNGED for the Reset
- button. Well, after the reboot, I did a 'df' command and the
- following screen appeared:-
-
- Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on
- /dev/hda2 51675 49173 2502 95% /
- /dev/fd1 51675 49173 2502 95% /user
-
- So I try a 'umount /user' and the system sends the following
- reply "umount: /dev/fd1: No such file or directory".
-
- I checked for /dev/fd1, and it was still there with the following
- attributes:-
-
- brw-r--r-- 1 root root 2, 1 Aug 29 21:48 /dev/fd1
-
- So can SOMEONE tell me how do I get rid of /user????
-
- [NB: MORAL OF THE STORY: Whatever you do, do NOT install ANYTHING
- you are unsure of, in LINUX, when your partition is close
- to being full(90%+) ]
-
- Thanks...
