- I will really appraciate any kind of hints/help to find out what is wrong.
- I have installed the SLS .98p5 and upgraded the kernel image to 0.99p1, so
- I boot with a floppy made by 'make disk' of this version. I have also
- upgraded the X of SLS to XFree1.1 and installed XView3L2. To upgrade the
- kernel I have only recompiled the kernel 0.99p1 and replaced the boot image
- with it. I hope this has been enough (I don't know much about operating
- systems!).
-
-
- Now the problem:
-
- 1) When I reboot the computer or turn it on, I get the message
-
- ioctl: Invalid argument
-
- 2) I compile an application which I have written using XView, and
- then I try to run it in an xterm with bash.
- What happens is that the application returns immediately without
- anything happening. Just like running a null application.
-
- 3) I try to run the application in xxgdb. First I get the message:
-
- [ioctl TIOCSPGRP failed in terminal-inferior: Not a typewriter]
-
- in the window of xxgdb, and then the application runs as it should.
-
-
-
-
- Now my question is:
-
-
- 1) Is this problem arised from upgrading the system in a wrong way?
-
- 2) or is the problem source the fail somewhere when starting the
- system where I get the message: 'ioctl: Invalid argument'?
-
- 3) or ?
-
- 4) When upgrading the kernel, is it enough to replace the old Image
- with the one built by recompiling the new kernel source. Or are
- there any other things which are dependent on the new version of
- the kernel?
-
-
-
- I would really love to have a usable system. I hope some Linux/? experts can
- help me to find the source of the problem.

- Thanks in advance,
