  14. i had been using vile 3.11 with no problem until 0.98.6 came, and i kept
  15. getting the ''recompile'' messages, and the screen editing wasn't quite
  16. right.  the closest source i could find was vile 3 on prep.ai.mit.edu.

  18. vile 3 seems to work, except that when i vile filename, i get two
  19. buffers - one of them (the primary one) is the .vilerc file.  this isn't
  20. a drastic error, just an inconvenience.  i also get a lot of out of memroy
  21. errors.

  23. question 1: is there a copy of the source for vile3.11 somewhere? i ddn't
  24. see it in the usual places.

  26. so i tried the source for elvis 1.6 from tsx-11 (i think). i had to patch
  27. (from the elvis.patch post) by hand because the patch had absolute
  28. paths, and my system didn't like it. anyway, elvis doesn't handle scrolling
  29. down correctly, similar to the 25th-line problem that minicom has.

  31. question 2: is this a common problem? is there a mistake in my termcap?
  32. is there an easy fix?

  34. question 3: is there a 'standard' vi clone that was written specifically
  35. for linux?  one that a moron like me can just download, untar, and make?
