- Hi, I was wondering if there exists a BBS for Linux that I can use,
- which has the following two basic features:-
-
- 1) It can handle fidonet-type messages, and Internet-news type messages.
- 2) There is a capability for it to be used with a Mailer(front end).
-
- The situation is this. I am currently running a Remote Access BBS system,
- and FrontDoor 2.02nc as a Front End mailer.
-
- I have recently installed Linux to my 486/33 8mb ram and have somewhat
- fell in love with it, so to speak. I installed Linux on a 51 meg partition
- with no swap parititions or anything, as I still am having problems with
- Linux, even though small ones. My other partition is a Dos partition with
- 65 megs or so, and I feel it quite a nuissance to even bother having two
- different OS on the same system. One thing, booting is a pain in the neck,
- (haven't installed LiLo yet, but will) and secondly, I'd rather commit
- most of the HD to Linux; but my soon-to-be-restored-bbs would be in my
- Dos partition. So I figured, won't it be awesome if I can have a BBS that
- can read fidonet-type messages, or at least have a message tosser for
- fidonet-type messages, as well as the same echoproccessor having Internet
- mail capabilities? (damn..my terminals a bit screwed up, but I should
- have meant 'echoproccessor' instead of 'message tosser'.
-
- So in conclusion, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas. I actually
- checked out sunsite.unc.edu and found a directory /pub/packages/bbs or
- something like that, and it had some BBS source code, but I am not sure
- if they worked or at least, I'm not even sure if that's the actual bbs
- package I'm looking for. In any event, I downloaded the whole stuff,
- only to realize that 'bbselm.tar'(renamed) and 'bbsuemacs.tar' and
- some other stuff were > 1.44 MB, and thusly, I couldn't rawrite them
- to 3 1/2" floppies, like I did with most of the other software packages
- I got.
-
- Can someone please help me with this minor/major dilemma?
-
- any help appreciated.
-
- PS: I DID write a similar plea in alt.bbs, but someone suggested I write
- it here...
-
- Thanks..
