- It doesn't seem as if everyone I ask knows anything about serial
- logins.
-
- Can someone help me how to get a SERIAL login system working?
- I have a 14.4k modem on COM1. COM2 is where my mouse is..so no worries
- there, I think. My main concern is COM1, or /dev/ttys0....*sigh*
-
- I've tried what was suggested in the FAQ, but I haven't had any
- success! I've also tried a few experimenting, like any new linuxer would!
- Here are the following stuff I've done:-
-
- 1) Changed my modem setting to CD on always, Answer on first ring
- and DTR on always.
-
- 2) had the following inittab settings:-
- ttys0: vt100 : /etc/getty -t 10 9600 ttys0
-
- And I dialed in from my other terminal, and all it did was connect
- and then hang up the modem!
-
- Another try:-
-
- 1) Changed my modem settings back to original position.
- 2) Changed the inittab settings to original settings.
- 3) went to kermit. and did the following commands:-
-
- C-Kermit>set line /dev/ttys0
- C-Kermit>set speed 9600
- /dev/ttys0, speed 9600 (or something like that)
- C-Kermit>remote login
- C-Kermit>server
- ....
-
- 4) Then I'd phone in from my other line, and still get
- a connection, but this time, the connection stayed
- but nothing happens. So I log in from another
- console, and did a "getty -t 10 9600 ttys0"
- and the remote terminal would show the standard
- Linux login screen, but when it comes to typing
- things in, nothing happens.
-
- So bascially, I'm calling for major help from any Linux pros out there!
- I once did make a GOOD FLUKEY connection. I would actually log in as a
- non-root user from remote, and do normal commands..but the local consoles
- were being bombarded by messages..... argh!!
-
- Do I have the wrong 'getty' or 'uugetty' commands???
-
- Incidentally, does anyone know where I can get a source file for the
- 'w' command? My version of 'w' doesn't work well. It doesn't display
- any information under the 'JCPU','PCPU' and 'what' columns!! I did
- get something from tsx-11.mit.edu, but it still didn't work, even
- after I've compiled it.. hmm actually, just remembered the filename:
- ps-0.98.tar.Z <i think> and it had the diff file with it, but I couldn't
- figure out how to get linux compiling stuff from the B drive.
-
-
- Any help appreciated!!!
-
- Incidentally, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
-
- <WOULD YOU actually believe I've been like monitoring this are for
- like 24hours straight trying to get answers?!! man, I've sure got a life.>
-
- Oh one more thing, does anyone know where I can get some linux-based
- multi-user games, if any exists?
-
- Thanks again..
