- I've just built 0.99 pl1. And so far things seem pretty good. The
- patches went in clean, and the config stuff seems to work fine. I've
- only discovered one hitch: it concerns xdm, which I don't normally
- use, but I thought I'd mention it. This build was on a plain 386DX
- ISA IDE box, I'll build 0.99pl1 on work's 486DX EISA SCSI box tomorrow
- and report back on any problems. The 486 has been running 0.99 with
- all the tcp/ip nfs stuff without any problems (other than those
- expected due to the ALPHA/BETA nature of much of the ancilliary
- software).
-
- All this progress in just one year - thanks to all involved.
-
- xdm -nodaemon no longer works for me. If I boot 0.99 pl0, it also
- doesn't work, so I rebooted the last kernel I used before 0.99 (0.98
- pl5) and everything works fine. The X background comes up, but
- I think xdm fails to grab the console input, as I have to press
- a key to make it continue, and then when the login window appears
- I can't enter anything.
-
- One possibility is that something about my system is mis-configured,
- and 0.98 was more forgiving. /dev/console and /dev/tty0 are
-
- crw-rw-rw 1 root system 4, 0
-
- which seems correct. Startx works fine.
-
- Can anyone else confirm this problem.
