- Well, we have had pretty good luck with Linux using a Local Bus machine
- and the sort. The only problem we have had is the EtherExpress16 ethernet
- board is not supported by Linux, but we are in the process of writing a
- device driver for this (and I will make sure that it gets posted and ftp'd
- when we are done...).
-
- The only problem with the Local Bus machine was that it wasn't the machine
- we were suppose to have had to begin with... some mix up in the Purchasing
- Department caused the wrong computer to be ordered. Well, now we have the
- correct machine, and EISA bus machine. Now... :-( Linux refuses to accept
- the SCSI harddrive and prints a message when mount/fdisk/etc is used...
- "Could not open /dev/hda" (or something like that). It doesn't make any
- difference if I use /dev/hda or /dev/sda or any of the devices. The end
- result is the same. This means that we cannot even install Linux on the
- machine as long as it is doing this.
-
- Has anybody had experience with any EISA bus machines and installing Linux?
- I would appreciate any help on this matter... Thanks.
-
- MACHINE:
- 486DX2/50. EISA Bus. 340meg SCSI UltraStor 14F. 8Meg Ram.
- Gateway 2000. ATI Ultra VGA graphics card... and various other
- standard stuff that comes with Gateways. (It is a towercase as well).
-
- Thanks.
- Scott
