- I highly agree with you. At the present I get about 200 postings per day for
- comp.os.linux, and I had to decrease the expire time down to 4 days in order
- to keep my spool disk from overflowing.
-
- you realize, of course, that splitting c.o.l will not keep your spool
- disk from overflowing --- in fact, experience has shown that splitting
- tends to increase overall noise without significantly increasing overal
- signal....
-
- Do you (or anybody else) have any idea of how to subdivide this
- group? I think we should at least create a group which covers all the
- newcomer questions and regular postings like the FAQ and the INFO
- SHEET.
-
- USENET is simply a horrible way of dealing with newcomer questions; we
- need a better way. I do have one in mind, which involves using email
- and a list of volunteers to field questions, such that each question
- goes to only one volunteer, who can forward it on to someone else if
- he/she caqn't answer it. Unfortunately, I need to implement some
- software to do this first. (Last time, I asked for volunteers before
- writing the software, and I got too swamped to write the software; this
- time, I'm writing the software first. :-) Hopefully sometime in
- January/February I'll have time to tackle this.
