- : interested in getting some answers.
- :
- : 1. How long does your system stay running at any given boot?
- Never crashed that I know of (couple of days at most so far...).
- :
- : 2. How reliable is the file system. Do files/filesystems get lost
- : often (how often).
- Haven't lost anything due Linux yet. Drdos thought the Linux
- partitions were dos partitions (???) and I accidentally zapped one
- (by running the wrong program) before I realized it...
- This was with the Linux/Minux FS, I'll switch to the extended now...
- :
- : 3. How well does the system stand up to large numbers of processes
- : running? How does it respond in low resource conditions?
- Seems ok, but needs more testing.
- :
- : 4. I have used other Unix systems with X Windows and found that 4MB's
- : is woefully inadequate. What is needed to run Linux with X?
- : What is needed to run several (10 or so) terminal sessions?
- 4-8 it seems, depending on what type of applications are needed.
- :
- : 5. I am interested in writing a character cell windowing system so that
- : terminal users can still get some of the multi-window advantages
- : without the X Window overhead. Is anyone else working on such
- : a system? I was thinking about Alpha Windows as a basis for this
- : software.
- Check out Screen, which does multiple virtual screens on any terminal.
- Each screen is full screen, so it's not windowed. You do have
- scrolling and cut/paste.
- :
- : Sorry if some of this information is found in the FAQ, but I have been
- : unable to get the FAQ off tsx...
