  12.     I'm getting ready to install Linux as a replacement for my
  13. existing Unix OS (its getting old, doesn't have as many features as
  14. Linux seems to have) but currently have a couple of worries :)

  16.     The main one is my comm's card...I have an AST 4Port Board
  17. that I currently have to install FAS to use...I hear that someone out
  18. there currently has an AST 4Port Board running...what's involved?

  20.     I'm currently trying to install it on a Laptop (a trial run
  21. before the big one) and seem to be having a few 'problems':

  23.     - the hard drive is old and has bad sectors.  When I set up a
  24.           partition with my old OS, it does surface analysis and sets
  25.           up a 'bad sectors' map and so on...does Linux have something
  26.           similar?

  28.     - after I finish the doinstall script, I get prompted to put
  29.           in the formatted diskette (to make a boot diskette from),
  30.           which I do, and which it does...no problem...except when I
  31.           reboot...it goes through the 'Loading.....' part, and then
  32.           the screen goes black...no cursor or anything, just
  33.           black...ideas?

  35.     Please respond by email, as I currently am unable to retain
  36. news for very long (lack of disk space)...and I have the most recent
  37. FAQ, so please do not send that (but if it is something that I did
  38. miss in the FAQ, please point me to it?)
