- Hi:
- In the man for fdformat, it states that "using the raw
- device speeds up formatting noticeably". This seems to be in
- error. I formatted a 3.5" floppy disk and time reports the
- following:
-
- Device Real User Sys
- fva1 1:05.3 0.0 0.1
- rfva1 1:05.1 0.0 0.1
- fd1135ds18 1:05.1 0.0 0.1
- rfd1135ds18 1:05.1 0.0 0.1
- fd1135ds18 4:48.8 1.2 1.7 (-v) verify option
- rfd1135ds18 4:49.2 1.2 0.3 "
- fva1 4:48.9 1.2 1.6 "
- rfva1 4:48.9 1.3 0.3 "
- Note: fva1 linked to fd1135ds18, ditto for raw device.
-
- Strange; does man mean "decreases system time"? It
- certainly does not decrease real time. Also, using the system
- for other jobs gives a *very* noticeable delay, on the order of
- seconds.
-
- Can this be linked to the *slow* IDE hard-disk driver
- problem? Any comments? Any fixes? Any better HD/FD drivers
- out there?
- Regards, Kestas
