  14. sorry if the following problem has already been tackled in previous
  15. postings or an faq. I just purchased COHERENT 4.0 and have to decide
  16. quickly if I will keep or return it.
  17.  
  18. My problem is as follows:
  19. When I try to boot from disk #1, I get the boot prompt, and type
  20. "begin". Then I get the messages
  21.  
  22. Loading COHERENT.
  23.  
  24. Loading COHERENT data.
  25.  
  26. Please wait...
  27.  
  28. There are several seconds of floppy disk activity, then the cursor
  29. jumps to the upper left corner of the screen and the system is dead
  30. with the floppy light still on.
  31.  
  32. I have tried the obvious things like changing wait states, bus speed
  33. etc. but to no avail. If upper memory relocation is switched off "5a"
  34. is written to the upper right corner of the screen before the system
  35. dies. All other changes in the setup had no effact at all.

  37. Has anybody else experienced and successfully overcome this problem?
  38. Any help is **VERY** much appreciated. I would like to join the COHERENT
  39. user community soon.

  41. My system has the following configuration:

  43. Motherboard with AMD 386DX/DXL, 40 MHz, 4MB RAM, Symphony chipset,
  44. AMI BIOS
  45. GENOA VGA with Tseng ET 4000 chipset and 1 MB RAM
  46. IBM 8503 monochrome monitor
  47. Multi I/O board (com1, com2, lpt1, fd, hd) with Inboard W83757F chip
  48. Seagate ST3144A hard disk
  49. 3,5" floppy
  50. Cherry MF2 keyboard
  51.  
  52. My COHERENT is V 4.0.1A.

  54. BTW: I have SCO UNIX V3.2 running on a machine with the same configuration
  55. for several months without problems. I tried the emergency boot disks
  56. on this machine and got SCO up. I also ran several tests with CHECKIT
  57. without error reports.
