- :
- : PANEL Plus II consists of a screen layout designer and user interface
- : manager which produces screens for C applications portable across DOS,
- : Windows, OS/2, Unix (many flavours) and VMS. It handles data entry and
- : validation, menus and scrolling regions, etc. The next release will have
- : Coherent support in the included full library source. I don't know yet
- : whether we will make a "PANEL Plus II for Coherent". The problem is that
- : though our product is not really expensive ($495 per development user, no
- : royalties) it appears to be expensive when compared to Coherent itself. We
- : cannot produce a "cheap" Coherent version because this conflicts with our
- : policy of making the price platform independent. Do any other tools vendors
- : have a view about this?
-
- Thanks for the informations.
- I think it's a good idea to add COHERENT support in tools and applications.
- COHERENT is going on to become a serious development platform for SV,
- I wrote several programs at home under COHERENT which are running now
- on $100000 systems which I can't effort. So if a tool could be used under
- COHERENT to develop software for the expensive systems I would buy it,
- if I have the need for. Why should I buy a $100000 system to run a $495
- software, if I could do it under my $100 COHERENT?
- Of course you can't expect that those running COHERENT for learning UNIX
- or just for fun buy such software. But I think people developing software
- for SV would buy it.
- This is only my personal opinion.
