- The Microsound system is available either as a whole unit, or as an add-on for
- your existing PC. You must have AT LEAST a 386-25, and they recommend a 386-33.
- You'd better have a BIG hard drive (at least 500 meg) to be able to use this to
- the fullest extent. The bigger your drive, the better. Anyway, the full rig, in
- its basic version (unbalanced I/O, 500M drive) is $7800. The large rig (Balanced
- I/O, 1000M drive) is $9400. If you have everything, they'll sell you the
- interface board and software for as little as $3700, somewhat more for digital,
- more for 4 channels. Assuming you don't get the 4-channel version, you have
- exactly two outputs, and all your other tracks are mixed together in the
- computer, which is why they're called virtual tracks. You can mix together any
- 38 stereo tracks from up to 1800 that you have stored. Or, you can just work
- with 1 stereo track, cutting and pasting like SoundTools for the Mac. It's a
- very versatile system, and the guys at MicroSound will also sell you huge hard
- drives (up to four Gigabytes), rack cases, extra manuals for evaluation before
- you buy, digital I/O upgrades, all kinds of stuff. Is this what you were looking
- for, or did you need something cheaper? What will you be doing with it?
