- I have been using PROCITE for several years and, despite remarks
- included below, am quite happy with it. It is put out by
- Personal Bibliographic Software Inc
- P.O. Box 4250
- Ann Arbor Michigan 48106
- USA
- (313) 996 - 1580
- FAX: (313) 996-4672

- I started using it to keep track of an extensive microfilm collection
- but I have used it to track my own library, a research collection
- of old letters (of Charles Babbage and his friends) and a growing
- collection of photocopies and clippings. It provides good searching
- facilities and good formatting of various bibliographic forms for
- different journals etc. It is one of the packages that I tend to
- use for many different kinds of searching and storing of information.
- If a student comes to ask for information on a particular topic, the
- first thing I do is check my PROCITE database.
- The big problem I have with it is that the information is stored
- in a strange format that I find difficult to deal with outside of
- the PROCITE system. I wish they had a spell checker built in - the
- file format makes it almost impossible to use standard spell checkers
- such as those available in various word processors - you can dump out
- an ASCII version, run that through a spell checker, then reimport it
- into PROCITE, but it is a pain.
- They publish a newsletter that comes every few months, but it
- usually deals with stuff I don't care about.
- I hope this helps.
