- The first thought that comes to mind is that you are experiencing flow
- control problems. Try to eliminate flow control from the picture and
- see if your problem goes away.

- I had a problem once that was similiar. My links worked just fine for
- everything I was using them for; mail and some file transfers. Then I
- tried to get a disk image from SCO's uucp server. It would fail very
- consistently towards the end of the file with these alarm messages.
- When I put it to SCO as a problem report I spoke to one of their uucp
- gurus who explained something to me. Because the disk image file had
- a large section at the end which was empty the file transfer would
- send a long string of NULLs. The modem would be very efficient at
- compressing these NULLs. This would screw up the uucp timing badly.
- Unfortunately I don't have the note any more and I can't remember the
- exact details any more.
