  23. All papers are due on Friday 8 January 1993 at 6:00 pm PST.

  25. Authors from outside the United States must allow time for customs
  26. inspections as part of the shipping process.

  45. What you should send
  46. --------------------

  48. Send 5 copies of each paper. Each paper should be complete with a full
  49. set of illustrations. If you want to include a videotape send five
  50. copies in VHS format. You should also fill out one copy of the
  51. submission form included below.

  53. Please send your complete submission in a single package. 
  54.  
  55. General guideliness
  56. -------------------
  57.  
  58. Each paper should include a descriptive title, and abstract of 100-300
  59. words, and keywords. You should discus the problem and context your
  60. paper is addressing. Clear statements of the novelty of your work, how
  61. your work relates to previous work, and the implications of your work
  62. should be included in the introduction. The paper should include a
  63. sufficiently detailed description of the new work to convince the
  64. reviewers that the ideas presented are correct and the work performed
  65. could be duplictaed by a person knowledgable in the field. The
  66. acceptance or rejection decision is based on the content of the paper
  67. as submitted.

  69. The paper must be previously unpublished and every effort will be made
  70. to avoid concurrent publication of papers. Ppaers submitted
  71. concurrently elsewhere will be disqualified. The author should clearly
  72. explain in a cover letter or in the paper's introduction how the
  73. submitted manuscript differs significantly from previous papers that
  74. the author has submitted or published on the same topic. Releasing the
  75. paper as a technical report does not constitute outside publication:
  76. such papers will be considered.

  78. Electronic Submissions

  81. Papers may be submitted electronicaly in floppy disks, 45 Mbyte
  82. Sysquest cartridge, or via the Internet. Electronically submitted
  83. papers can use the following data types:

  87. Microsoft Word 4.0/5.0, Wordperfect 2.1 files (Mac)
  88. troff (UNIX)
  89. TIFF/PICT images
  90. Quicktime movie files

  96. The proceedings of the conference will be published electronically as
  97. well as in hard copy format. It is anticipated thatthe electronic
  98. format will include support for rich mediaand be accesible on both
  99. CD-ROM and electronic networks.

  101. Copyright
  102. ---------

  104. The authors and their employers, other than employees of the US
  105. Government, must be prepared to sign a copyright transfer form before
  106. the paper is published. The ACM copyright procedures say in part: It
  107. is policy of ACM to own the copyright on its technoical publications
  108. to protect the interests of ACM, its authors, and their employers, and
  109. at the same time to facilitate the appropriate reuse of this material
  110. by others.

  112. The Review Process
  113. ------------------
  114.  
  115. Judging of papers will be done under a very tight schedule to meet the
  116. time constraints of Multimedia 93. As many of you know, conference
  117. reviewing is, in general, far from perfect. On occasion good papers
  118. may get rejected. However, authors of rejected papers are encouraged
  119. to resubmit the following year. To familiarize yourself with issues
  120. which may affect acceptance of a paper at ACM Multimedia 93, you are
  121. advised to read the article How to Get Your SIGGRAPH Paper rejected,
  122. which may be obtained with the SIGGRAPH 93 papers contributors packet
  123. by sending mail to contrib.multimedia93@siggraph.org, or by anonymous
  124. ftp from siggraph.org (128.248.245.250). The technical committee will
  125. do its best to accept outstanding papers in this exciting and rapidly
  126. developing field.

  128. Selected papers and journal publication
  129. ---------------------------------------

  131. Selected papers will be recommended for fast track publication in
  132. major ACM journals, such as the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking
  133. and the Multimedia Systems Journal, Springer International.  Special
  134. issues on the conference are being considered.
