- There is no single beast known as "FTP mail".
- There are many different packages which provide similar services,
- namely are able to fetch any file from any site (altough might
- refuce some sites due to slow lines/poor responces/..):

- many sites have mail-based servers, which send out local files
- to whoever asks them. Some sites (within Europe) have a policy
- that files are delivered only to recipients with FQDN addresses
- (no .UUCP) altough notification about bad address is attempted
- to deliver to original address.
