  15. About once a month I archive the messages in this conference, ZIPping each
  16. batch to economise on space.  Before I do so, I edit out the fortnightly
  17. homily from David Stodolsky.  The difference is significant.

  19. Here are the 'before and after' statistics for December (up to the 30th,
  20. inclusive):

  22. Complete database - 122,329 bytes (100%)
  23. Purged database   -  74,523 bytes (61%)

  25. The absolute figures will vary with the capture and storage mechanism used on
  26. people's systems but the ratio of wheat and chaff will, I imagine, be broadly
  27. the same for everyone.
