- At George Mason University in Fairfax, VA we have
- a program in the department on Art and Art History that is
- called Visual Information Technology. The focus is on making
- art with computers. We have SGIs, Macs, and PCs, as well
- as numerous input and output devices.
- On the SGIs, we use primarily Softimage as well as Eddie, and
- on the Macs and PCs we have many different paint, draw, and 3D
- animation classes.
- The degrees awarded in the program are MA and MFA. It is currently
- a rather small program, with about 12 students enrolled. You must
- submit a portfolio as part of the entrance requirements. The program
- is very flexible and open to people from different backgrounds, but
- it is an art program, it is not stressing how to use program xyz on
- computer abc, but the design procedure and content of the work
- you produce.
