- You can use a X-Windows viewer called xv (or xvn). However, if you are
- running OpenWindows v3, you can use the Snapshot Tool to display .GIF
- images as well.

- JPEG images are 24 bit images (which means that they can have up to 6
- million colors) whereas .GIF images are 8 bit images (max of 256
- colors). Some .GIF viewers will display JPEG. Snapshot in OpenWindows
- will compress the color map to display the JPEG file as a GIF... It
- doesn't do a very good job.
