- Hi. We are doing some galactic simulations, and need to plot gas density on a
- plane using contour or image plotting. That is, our simulation gives us an
- ordered triplet of numbers (r, z, rho) where r and z are positions on the plane
- in polar coordinates and rho is the gas density at this point. We would then like
- to plot rho(r,z) using a contour or image plot where white would (for instance) be
- large densities and black would (for instance) be low densities.

- We are willing to buy any package that is out there. I tried using Mathematica on
- my Sun, but that didn't seem to be up to the job. I then tried using Matlab on my
- Sun, but that only graphs a matrix of values rho(i,j) where i and j are assumed to
- be uniformly spaced on the planar grid -- at least that's what it seems to be the
- case just today after I read the tutorial but will check the manuals in more
- detail later.

- My question is, is there any nice package out there which would give me the
- capability to make a contour plot of the triplet of numbers (r, z, rho), or
- even (x, y, rho) so I could make a contour plot or an image plot?

- Can Matlab be made to work? How about IDL or Supermongo? Does anyone have any
- phone numbers (FAX preferred) of any software firm that has an appropriate package.
- Or any macros for Matlab or Mathematica, or any free software, etc., etc.
