  24.     Where are these fonts? Definitely not at [anonymous.tex.mf.cm.variants], since
  25.     this directory does not exist. And not in the [anonymous.tex.font] tree.

  27. This sounds like the ``sauter'' distribution, which I maintain these
  28. days.  (John Sauter at DEC did all the original work.)  It allows
  29. generation of Computer Modern (and other typefaces based on CM) fonts at
  30. any point size.
