- Hello out there,
-
- Only a few answers reached me to my question about fonts in NS 3.0. Again and
- short the problem: After upgrading to NS 3.0 fonts disapeared from my
- font-panel which were using NS 2.1 usuable without any problems. In my case it
- were only Garamonds. The two first installed font families were shown at the
- panel (and were usuable) - the second installed Garamonds were not (at my site
- this happened to ITC Garamond, Stempel Garamond, AdobeGaramond and Gramond
- Three).
-
- Two answers seems to be represented here:
-
- 1. The 'new' buildafmdir from NS 3.0 allows only to install 256 fonts.
- Workaround: Using the 'old' buildafmdir from NS 2.1.
- (special thanks to Rob Parkhill <rob@hobbes.cuc.ab.ca> and d'Art Computer
- at Kiel/Germany).
-
- 2. Consequently giving the fonts new names (within the afm- and outline-files,
- too!) and then running 'buildafmdir' becomes an internal solution.
- For example:
- AGaramond will be renamed to AGaramont (using the T at the end). Do that
- inside the afms and outline, too! After running 'buildafmdir' a font named
- AGaramont appears in the font panel and is usuable.
- To send PS-files to other computers you have to use the option 'defined
- printer/incl. fonts' at the save-menue (I actually don't know the English
- pop-up-menue-lines - it's the third from above). This causes for example a
- Linotype not to use the built-in fonts but those which are now presented
- in the PS-file (unfortunally this doesn't work with FrameMaker).

-
- Especially the second workaround isn't a very well one IMHO and insn't worth
- for a machine, which ist in all other features great. But it works ...
- It might be that there is another NeXTer who knows more about. Sending a mail
- to me would be great! Furthermore for me there's only hope to NS 3.1 - which
- should be shipped without any costs to the users ...
