  25.     Most likely the VMS system does not know what kind of terminal you 
  26.     have (are emulating) on the Sun.  TELNET does not usually pass this
  27.     information on startup.  A SET TERMINAL/INQUIRE might work (in your
  28.     LOGIN.COM, but check with your system manager, it may already be in
  29.     the system wide SYLOGIN.COM).  If this fails, you can 
  30.     SET TERMINAL/DEVICE=VT200.  EDT has to know what kind of terminal
  31.     you are using, or it will fall back to line mode on the assumption
  32.     you may have a hardcopy type.
