- What you mentioned about the Hayes/USR connections isn't true for the
- Optima series. You're probably thinking of the V-series which does use
- a proprietary protocol. I have succesfully connected to several USR DS's
- at 14.4K with my Hayes Optima 144+FAX144.
-
- I, too, compared the Optima 144 with the Intel 400/e. In favor of the Intel,
- I noticed that they advertised a DTE/DCE rate of 115.2K. However I questioned
- whether that would help much in my environment (Intel X86 machines). (i.e.
- that's pretty fast for a PC, and that rate is so far above the DCE-DCE rate
- anyway, .........)
-
- In favor of the Hayes, it is (in my opinion) "more standard", and has
- the capability of doing 14.4K in FAX mode, something that seems pretty
- unusual.
-
- I am still evaluating the Hayes. If it turns out the Hayes doesn't work
- out, I'll either try the Intel or put more $$ down and go for a T3000.
