  16.    Solution: use a FOSSIL driver.  This allows my dialout, UUCP, and Fido 
  17. software all to use the same driver (a real plus), as well as giving me the 
  18. ability to use serial ports whose hardware differs from 'standard' PC serial 
  19. ports, e.g. multiport boards from AST, DigiBoard, ARNET, etc.

  30.    Screen drawing is screen drawing; it still paints faster than I can read, 
  31. and screen handling speed does not affect file transfer throughput.  Telix 
  32. wrote directly to the screen; I get the idea that TeleMate doesn't, for which 
  33. I consider it a better behaved program.  However, I have used modems at 57600 
  34. (ZyXEL U-1496E), 38400 (USR Dual Standard, 1443 ROMs), 19200 (Telebit T1000), 
  35. and 2400 (Hayes Smartmodem 2400) and TeleMate worked reasonably quickly for 
  36. all.  I am using a 386/40 with DesqView.
