- Solution: use a FOSSIL driver. This allows my dialout, UUCP, and Fido
- software all to use the same driver (a real plus), as well as giving me the
- ability to use serial ports whose hardware differs from 'standard' PC serial
- ports, e.g. multiport boards from AST, DigiBoard, ARNET, etc.
-
- TeleMate is the first decent comm program I've found that can use the
- FOSSIL driver. (Anyone know of others?)

- Screen drawing is screen drawing; it still paints faster than I can read,
- and screen handling speed does not affect file transfer throughput. Telix
- wrote directly to the screen; I get the idea that TeleMate doesn't, for which
- I consider it a better behaved program. However, I have used modems at 57600
- (ZyXEL U-1496E), 38400 (USR Dual Standard, 1443 ROMs), 19200 (Telebit T1000),
- and 2400 (Hayes Smartmodem 2400) and TeleMate worked reasonably quickly for
- all. I am using a 386/40 with DesqView.
