  20. Nop! That's not all. First You must recognize that there are different versions
  21. of 1946E models... Some 'middleaged' E models have the + PCB and the CPU is in
  22. a socket... They also have Jumpers to change between 13.333 and 20 Mhz. So it's
  23. not so hard to plug in a new CPU (16Mhz version) an change the jumpers...
  24. But that's not all (again :-() Also there ist a piggy pack on the Modems
  25. mainboard. This PCB carries the DSP-RAM. There a two different versions of this
  26. piggy pack: One is of 1990 (it has 5 chips or so and the soldering side
  27. (this side You see when you open the ZyXEL) hasn't any wires on it, it's just
  28. ground). The other one is of 1992... it has 7 chips or so and you see a normal
  29. PCB-structure ;-) on the soldering side.

  31. But also when You have the + PCB and the new DSP-Ram PCB it doesn't work fine
  32. with 5.04EP-Roms. (I was told, that it works with 5.01EP-Rom's but that's out
  33. of interest for me). Someone told me to try the 5.04RP (rack mount modem) and I
  34. did, but it worked also not so good...

  36. So what's my claim to write this whole story without any conclusions?

  38. I'm very interested in how the 5.04EP Roms do recognize why the modem is not a
  39. real bought + ... There must be more to check (or change)...
