  11. I just bought a PC Logic 14,4 fax/modem v.32bis v.42bis to replace
  12. a GVC 96/24 fax/modem, but I'm having a number of problems:

  14. 1. Only able to comment to 9600 dial in lines, the 2400 lines I was
  15.    was using with the GVC time-out or have no carrier detected.

  17. 2. The 9600 connection takes about 50% longer than the 2400 used to.
  18.  
  19. 3. Transfers fail after about 10K. Using Y-modem batch
  20.  
  21. 4. Transfers that succeed (< 10K) are not that much faster than the
  22.    2400 was. 300cps compared to 200cps.
  23.  
  24. 5. Character set suddenly becomes partially corrupted. It is as if
  25.    about half the alphabet has been permuted. I can still recognize
  26.    prompts because they are the same length, and about half the
  27.    characters are correct.

  29. None of this ever happended with the GVC on the 2400 lines. Of course
  30. I can't test the new modem on the old lines because it won't connect.
  31. Other than changing the comm software modem speed and the phone number
  32. everything else was the same.
