- Here are the differences between what you have an what I run:
-
- * I run with M1 so I can hear what the modems are doing when they
- connect.
- * Not sure why you have &R0 (CTS follows RTS signal); I have
- the default of &R2 (force CTS on).
- * You have S07 set very high: I use default of 45.
- * You have S09 also set high: I use default of 0.
- * You have S10 set high as well: I use default of 3.

-
- I guess by "modem locked at 19200" you mean you run the port at that
- speed. I run mine at 38,400 as 19,200 won't give you the full
- benefit of the v42 compresson on ASCII text (and with real-world
- data I've never seen any increase in speed if I run the port higher).
-

-
- 1600 CPS on compressed files sounds OK. But with ASCII I bet you'll
- find you don't get 3,000 CPS which is quite possible if you set your
- port to 38,400.
-
- >The unit is an internal. Any help would be appreciated.
-
- Sorry to be ignorant but does the internal have a speaker? If so,
- can you hear what's happening when you get a 7200 and when you get
- 14,400?
-
- In any case, one thing you didn't mention is ATSQ. After you
- get a link (especially the 7200 BPS links) if you escape the modem
- and give it this you can get a reading on the S(ignal)Q(uality):
-
- +++
- OK
- ATSQ
- 7777777....
-
- If you get a line of 7's, you're SQ is OK. But if you get lower
- values, then there is something amiss with your line, the other
- modem's line, both, etc.
-
- That's all I can think of at the moment,
