- I had forgotten about this posibility....I have a GE answering machine that
- seems to exhibit this behaviour. I found that people couldn't hear the OGM,
- if the modem line was active. Now that its on a FAX/PHONE switcher that
- doesn't pass the 2nd pair, the problem has disappeared.

- However, the FAX/PHONE switcher doesn't detect extension pickups and the
- answering machine still gets connected to the line. Actually, it'll detect
- extension pickups after the machine kicks in, but not before. By then most
- people who call me hang up when they hear the machine. I'm starting to think
- that I should put a modem directly on the line and not bother with voice
- callers anymore.
