- Hello, ZyXEL owners.
-
- I am interested in upgrading my ZyXEL 1496E to an E+ and I would like to ask
- the net for some assistance. I understand the differences are minor enough
- that someone with hardware experience should be able to perform the necessary
- modifications (my E board has the '+' blacked out).
-
- My problem is that I don't own an E+ or know anybody who does, so I can't
- look inside one to compare the circuit/layout. Is there someone out there who
- either has an E+ or has access to one and would like to assist me in this
- project? Of course I will gladly share the results with anyone who is
- interested.
-
- The specific questions I have are:
-
- 1. What are the hardware additions provided in the E+. How much
- extra DSP RAM is provided and for which DSP(or both). Do the DSPs
- remain at 40 MHz or is the speed increased. Are the DSPs still not
- using the internal 4K masked ROM or is there now some code provided
- in the on chip ROM.
-
- 2. Is the main PC board in the E+ the same one as used in the
- new E models. Are the ZyXEL ASICs the same as in the E. Are there
- any other chip changes in the E+, not including the additions
- mentioned in 1.
-
- I believe all of these facts can be determined simply by looking inside
- an E+ modem and observing the components.
-
- Thanks in advance for any assistance.
