I am looking into buying a 9600/14.4k baud modem.  I found this
newsgroup only a few hours and after reading many messages, the number
of questions I now have have doubled 8-(.  It has also answered numerous
questions such as the summary of responses in regard to buying a
9600/14.4k baud modem (thanks whoever posted that).

Now, my question.....I have a IBM PS/2 55SX.  I have no idea what
UART it has.  It can't find it in any of the manuals it came with
and I can't even find it inside the machine.  Does anyone
know what UART is inside my machine?  If it doesn't have a
16550 UART, where and how much is a serial board with a 16550 UART?

If possible, please send email since I do not
have USENET access over winter break (I would like to purchase the modem
over winterbreak though).  Therefore, I have to call long distance to my
schools mainframe and much of the time messages have expired before I
get to see them.  Therefore, if anyone would like for me to forward any
replies I get, just send me email.
