- No, the "F" stands for "Fast." The "A" suffix indicates that the chip
- is the updated (bug fixed) version of the 16550. The "N" is the package
- type (plastic DIP). So the 16550AN has the FIFO bug fixed, but isn't
- able to run at quite as high a clock rate as the 16550AFN. But it will
- do just fine at 38.4Kb/s--the "F" part wouldn't have any advantage at all
- at that speed.
