  24. Could you guys be more explicit about what "book" you mean?
  25. Because in The Informix Guide to SQL:Tutorial, Chapter 10,
  26. we tried hard to produce accurate estimation formulas.  And
  27. that chapter definitely distinguishes between the case of
  28. varchar and non-varchar rows.

  30. Check the headings "Estimating Fixed-Length Rows," "Estimating
  31. Variable-Length Rows," "Estimating Index Pages," and others.
