- I know of a company that specialises in document publishing software. Here is a
- brief description of them.
-
-
-
- Electronic Book Technologies, a fast growing company based in
- Providence, is looking for several software engineers to assist with
- the development of their electronic publishing system. All code is in
- C++ or Ansi C with products delivered on all major Unix workstations,
- IBM PCs and compatibles under Windows, and by year-end the Macintosh.
-
- If interested, contact Bill Smith at (401) 421-9550.
-
- --------------------
-
- Let me add a few things. First of all, for those of you who don't
- know, SGML stands for Standard Generalized Markup Language (or
- something pretty similar). SGML is a document-specification standard
- that lets one specify both a hierarchy and the actual text of a
- document. There are several companies around who do text indexing, but
- I'm pretty sure EBT is the only one whose product does it for SGML
- without first translating it into some other format (and thereby
- usually losing some of the hierarchy information). This is a big win
- for them since SGML is starting to become a widespread standard--the
- aircraft manufacturing industry and some branches of the government,
- for example, have already standardized on SGML. EBT's product,
- DynaText, is used by government contractors and other big-name
- companies.
