  13. (Not sure, but these 2 newsgroups were the only ones I could think of that
  14. would be appropriate for my questions about DBXL and DBaseIII+, if not,
  15. sorry.  I also do not read these 2 much, so please email any responses to
  16. me, thanks.)

  18. I work at a small newspaper and maintain the circulation mailing list.
  19. When I started working there back in April, the list was kept on a database
  20. with DBaseIII+.  The business manager we had at that time was going to try
  21. and have me move the database over to DBXL and use that program instead.
  22. That was not done before he was no longer with the newspaper.  Now we have
  23. a different business manager and wants to use DBXL because we have
  24. documentation for it and we don't for dBaseIII+, don't know who got the
  25. copy of dBaseIII+ for us in the first place.  I am posting this message
  26. here to be able to see which program people have a preference to and why.
  27. I would like to be able to use the response information to show the
  28. business manager whether or not moving over to DBXL is wise.  I will not
  29. say I should just by the responses I get, but as help on deciding the
  30. final outcome some.

  32. To let you know what size database I am working with, it has about 7000
  33. records, having gone up from about 6000 records since last April.  It could
  34. go up another 500 to 1000 by the end of 1993, or even more.

  36. My questions are:
  37. 1)  Does DBXL display information/help onto the screen easier than dBaseIII+?
  38.  
  39. 2)  Which program works well or better with a 7000 to 8000 record database?
  40.  
  41. 3)  I have label format info setup already with dBaseIII+, is it or will it
  42.     be much problem to use them with DBXL?

  44. (and now the real personal questions)
  45. 4)  Which program do you like better?  (the more you have used both to be able
  46.     to compare the 2 together, the better)
  47.     Your answer can include which has a better help setup, menu options,
  48.     display to the screen info, anything that can show which is better.

  50. Thank you, I hope the 4 questions above are enough help on how people can tell
  51. me which database program between DBXL and dBaseIII+ may be better.
