I have been using DB4 v1.5 for a while. I like it and it hasn't given me
any trouble. But, until recently, I haven't started using all of the new stuff
that DB4 offers. Two of the neat features I just got into have been the .MDX &
PopUp Menus.
According to the books, .MDX are call production index that do what the .NDX
files do but in a different way. Under the old DB3, I had to write a few .NDX
files along with the .DBF to keep the indexs updated. Using .MDX all I need is
one index and everthing else gets updated. I appears that it also runs faster.
I have a 286 12 Mhz system at seems to work quite well and fast.
As for the PopUp menus, up to a point, I did what all the books said and all
of the print outs showed. But, nothing worked. So, I just ran the applicationsgenterator and it wrote out a program that worked. From their, I just modified
it to my needs and it works.
Now, for what its worth, this information for those who have DB4 but still
like to work with DB3 codes. Or, am I the only one. Just because v1.0 was a
piece of *@!&, v1.1 & v1.5 have solved this problem, and it is a nice program
to work with.
From what I hear, a Windows version is going to be shiped to programmers.
A Windows 2.0 version for the rest of use is being worked on.
