  20. According to PKWARE PKZIP 2.0 is upwards compatible with ZIP/UNZIP 1.9. In
  21. a week or two we will know for sure.

  26. Why are there 1001+ word processors, spreadsheets, databases, operating
  27. systems etc? Competition is the magic word. MS-DOS only got a real
  28. improvement after the Digital Research DOS release. Many improvements
  29. in PKZIP have been derived from LHarc, LHA and ARJ (whose improvements
  30. hev been derived from PKZIP too). And of cause they all try to do
  31. better than the rest.

  37. PKZIP 1.10 has been around very long. Only now PKZIP 2.0 arives. ARJ has
  38. had more updates but those have been downwards AND upwards compatible with
  39. older versions (proves the quality of the design BTW). ARJ 3.0 will be
  40. the first major release of ARJ with new technology not downwards compatible
  41. but I understood ARJ 2.40 WILL be capable of decompressing ARJ 3.0 files.

  46. Well I am working very hard on yet another one and so are many others :-)
  47. It is you privilige as customer to profit from them but also to ignore
  48. them. I personally think competition and improvement are very important
  49. components for a healty software industry.
