  21. This information is possibly useful for several people so I responded publicly.

  23. From my understanding 16450 can be replaced directly with a 16550.  I have
  24. not heard about the one other chip, only that replacing the 16450 is all that
  25. is needed.

  27. The 16550AFN is the one you want (Note: AFN, not A or AN).   The 16550AFN is
  28. the one with the 16byte FIFO buffer which is useful for multitasking systems
  29. and high speed modemsm.

  31. As for where to get it, JDR electronic suppliers has then, and so does
  32. the Questor Project (questor@wimsey.bc.ca, in the message body, HELP  -- I
  33. think that is the right addresss).  The questor project has National
  34. Semiconductor 16550AFN for 12 dollars plus 3 dollars shipping and handling
  35. last time I checked.
