- This information is possibly useful for several people so I responded publicly.

- From my understanding 16450 can be replaced directly with a 16550. I have
- not heard about the one other chip, only that replacing the 16450 is all that
- is needed.

- The 16550AFN is the one you want (Note: AFN, not A or AN). The 16550AFN is
- the one with the 16byte FIFO buffer which is useful for multitasking systems
- and high speed modemsm.

- As for where to get it, JDR electronic suppliers has then, and so does
- the Questor Project (questor@wimsey.bc.ca, in the message body, HELP -- I
- think that is the right addresss). The questor project has National
- Semiconductor 16550AFN for 12 dollars plus 3 dollars shipping and handling
- last time I checked.
