- WHAT?? How can you spread such a message around the globe, when you
- obviously have so little experience with the matter?
-
- Between two Unix machines, FTP will probably not have to do any
- translation for ASCII or BINARY modes, and so files may possibly be sent
- undamaged if the wrong mode is used. But you are not guaranteed that
- any particular machine you FTP to will be a Unix machine, nor is it
- guaranteed that any machine that a random user will FTP from is a Unix
- machine. In particular, adding a VMS or MS-DOS machine to the mixture
- will cause instant file corruption in the wrong mode. Given the large
- mixture of operating systems and machines in existence, it is ALWAYS a
- good idea to set the proper mode on FTP, no matter where you are or what
- you're doing!
