  21. The Congress of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence is aimed
  22. at offering an occasion of meeting and discussion to people interested in AI,
  23. both at the methodological and the applicative level.
  24. The Congress, which will host internationally known invited speakers and 
  25. panels on a range of topics, will be organized around two distinct tracks:
  26. Scientific track  and Application track
  27.  
  28. The partition into these two tracks shall make clear the distinction between
  29. consolidated techniques and frontier research problems, outlining also future 
  30. trends. Potential users will then have the possibility of evaluating the
  31. current state of the art and the potentiality of the discipline as a tool for
  32. helping to solve their own problems.

  35. SCIENTIFIC TRACK

  37. Submissions are invited on original and previously unpublished research in all
  38. aspects of AI, including, but not limited to:
  39. Automated Reasoning     
  40. Knowledge Representation
  41. Architectures, Languages and Tools for AI    
  42. Knowledge Engineering
  43. Machine Learning    
  44. Natural Language    
  45. Planning    
  46. Qualitative Reasoning    
  47. Distributed Artificial Intelligence    
  48. Intelligent Interfaces     
  49. Robotics     
  50. Perception and Vision    
  51. Cognitive Modeling    
  52. Connectionist Models for AI

  54. Paper Submission Information

  56. Papers submitted in the scientific track can be either long papers (completed
  57. research, maximun 5000 words) or short papers (ongoing research, maximum 
  58. 2500 words).  All papers will be stringently reviewed by at least two referees
  59. in order to assess originality, relevance and quality of presentation.
  60. Submitted papers should not be accepted for publication in any journal or
  61. other congress (apart from strongly specialized workshops with limited 
  62. audience).
  63. The first page shall contain the title of the paper, the name, affiliation and
  64. mailing address of each author, an abstract of no more than 200 words and 
  65. the specific field addressed by the paper.
  66. As the accepted papers (both long and short) will be published in a volume 
  67. of the Lecture Notes on Artificial Intelligence  (Springer Verlag), all
  68. papers must be written in English. Long papers will be granted an oral 
  69. presentation, whereas short papers will be discussed in a poster-session.

  73. Submitted papers must be sent to the Program Chairman, in five copies,
  74. before March 26th, 1993.
  75. Authors will be notified of acceptance/rejection before June 11th, 1993.
  76. The final, camera-ready version of the accepted papers must 
  77. arrive no later than July 5th, 1993.

  79. APPLICATION TRACK
  80.  
  81. The main aim of this track is to present significant AI applications developed
  82. or deployed in Italy, in order to show the potentialities and the effective 
  83. use of AI methodologies. 
  84. By applications, we mean systems that have overcome the prototype phase
  85. and have been tested in field for some time. Systems are not intended to be
  86. only Expert Systems, but any hardware/software system (man-machine interfaces,
  87. vision and perception systems, decision support systems, etc.) which uses AI
  88. technologies.

  90. Submission are invited for any application field with particular emphasis on:
  91. - - Design
  92. - - Manufacturing
  93. - - Control, Monitoring, Diagnosis
  94. - - Autonomous systems and robots
  95. - - Financial services
  96. - - Management
  97. - - Public administration
  98. - - Education, Training

  102. Papers submitted in the APPLICATION track should not exceed 10 pages (single 
  103. spaced, including figures) and can be written either in Italian or English.
  104. The first page shall contain the title of the paper, the name, affiliation 
  105. and mailing address of each author, an abstract of no more than 200 words
  106. and the specific field addressed by the paper.
  107. Accepted papers will be collected in a volume published directly by the AI*IA 
  108. and will be orally presented in the application track, possibly with the help 
  109. of video-tapes.
  110. In order to ensure a reasonable uniformity in application papers, each
  111. submitted paper should discuus the following issues;
  112. - - Problem description, with special attention to the motivations underlying 
  113. the choice of AI methodologies.
  114. - - Application description, with special attention to the design and
  115. implementation techniques, the choices of the representation formalisms 
  116. and reasoning mechanisms.
  117. - - Description of the system use: who is the user, how long the system has
  118. been used in field, results, impact on the organization.
