  25. This year's conference aims at broad coverage of the many and diverse 
  26. methodologies and topics that comprise Cognitive Science.  In addition
  27. to computer modeling, the meeting will feature research in computational, 
  28. theoretical, and psycho-linguistics; cognitive neuroscience; conceptual 
  29. change and education; artificial intelligence; philosophical foundations;
  30. human-computer interaction and a number of other approaches to the 
  31. study of cognition.

  33. A plenary session honoring the memory of Allen Newell is scheduled.

  54. PAPER SUBMISSIONS
  55.   With the goal of assembling a high-quality program representative of the
  56.   diversity of methods and topics in cognitive science, we invite papers 
  57.   presenting interdisciplinary research addressing any cognitive domain and 
  58.   using any of the diverse methodologies of the field.  Papers are specifically 
  59.   solicited which address the topics of the invited research sessions listed 
  60.   above.

  62.   Authors should submit five (5) copies of the paper in hard copy form to:

  71. DAVID MARR MEMORIAL PRIZES FOR EXCELLENT STUDENT PAPERS
  72.   Papers with a student first author will be eligible to compete for a David 
  73.   Marr Memorial Prize for excellence in research and presentation.  The David 
  74.   Marr Prizes are accompanied by a $300.00 honorarium, and are funded by an 
  75.   anonymous donor.

  77. LENGTH
  78.   Papers must be a maximum of six (6) pages long (excluding only the cover 
  79.   page), must have at least 1 inch margins on all sides, and must use no 
  80.   smaller that 10 point type.  Camera-ready versions will be required only 
  81.   after authors are notified of acceptance.

  83. COVER PAGE
  84.   Each copy of the paper must include a cover page, separate from the body
  85.   of the paper, which includes, in order:
  86.  
  87.   1. Title of paper.
  88.   2. Full names, postal addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses 
  89.      (if possible) of all authors.
  90.   3. An abstract of no more than 200 words.
  91.   4. The area(s) in which the paper should be reviewed.  When possible, please 
  92.      list, in decreasing order of relevance, 1-3 of the following keywords: 
  93.        action/motor control, acquisition/learning, cognitive architecture, 
  94.        cognitive neuroscience, connectionism, conceptual change/education,
  95.        decision making, foundations, human-computer interaction, language 
  96.        (indicate subarea), memory, reasoning and problem solving, perception,
  97.        situated action/cognition, skill/expertise.
  98.   5. Preference for presentation format: Talk or poster, talk only, poster
  99.      only.  Poster sessions will be highlighted in this year's conference. The 
  100.      proceedings will not distinguish between papers presented orally and
  101.      those presented as posters.
  102.   6. A note stating if the paper is eligible to compete for a Marr Prize.
  103.      For jointly authored papers, include a note from the student author's
  104.      advisor explaining the student's contribution to the research.

  110. SYMPOSIA
  111.   Proposals for symposia are also invited.  Proposals should indicate: 
  112.     (1) A brief description of the topic; 
  113.     (2) How the symposium would address a broad cognitive science audience;
  114.     (3) Names of symposium organizer(s); 
  115.     (4) List of potential speakers, their topics, and some estimate of their 
  116.         likelihood of participation; 
  117.     (5) Proposed symposium format (designed to last 90 minutes).
  118.   Symposium proposals should be sent as soon as possible, but no later than
  119.   February 2, 1993.
