- If you pay full price for a Hoyts movie, you're crazy. It's far better
- to buy their Cinema Cash, which costs $50 for a book for 10 tickets.
- That also includes 10 coupons for $1 off their outrageously overpriced
- refreshments, so it really comes out to $4 per ticket.
-
- Personally, I'm more upset that Hoyts has raised the price of its
- refreshments and decreased the size of its "small" sodas and popcorn.
-
- I doubt that ticket prices are driven by costs. Film distributors
- typically get a percentage of the gross box office receipts. Ticket
- prices, like everything else, are driven by market forces. Hoyts has
- a monopoly in this area, and they charge as much as people are willing
- to pay. Simple as that.
-
- By the way, I'm pretty sure that theaters make most of their money
- from selling refreshments. Stuff like popcorn and soda are almost
- pure profit. If you want to save money, bring your own food.
