- Art Ollin has fallen into the trap of not believing in what the UIC was for
- in the first place - it was to help those who were having to support a
- family during a crisis. Most collectors of UIC now are not in that
- situation. How do you solve that? The present step is a positive one even if
- it might hurt some people because the thinking which is rampant in this
- country MUST be changed - we must accept personal responsibility to save for
- our own misfortune and STOP looking to government to solve ALL SORTS of
- problems for us. I would gladly help those who are legitimately in need
- through my church - indeed, I watched one family suffer multiple
- unemployment (three laid off at once) with only the youngest daughter still
- holding a job - I have helped there and I can say that family never depended
- on UIC because they went out and made their own jobs while they were looking
- for employment (painting friends houses, going out and asking farmers if
- they could help, etc.) The Church also helped them so they did not need BIG
- DADDY GOVERNMENT to make them dependent for life which is what UIC
- encourages.

- I may not be for the present PM but I think that FTA and GST have been
- inspired policy (which the PM messed up by not following advice, ie. not
- taxing everything at a lower rate, including food, etc. and not putting into
- place proper retraining programs). As an economist I would advocate those
- policies again and again - just not the way they were implemented here.
