- Details vary, but I believe every state has a law to this effect.
- And every state has a similar duty which each citizen is obliged to
- pay on mail-order items he purchased from companies who don't maintain
- such a business presence. Of course, enforcement is virtually nil,
- though various states have made noises about it from time to time.

- Ignoring a law simply because you can is not usually looked upon as a
- position of moral superiority. We hear news reports about businesses'
- questionable practices every day; why are you calling for more of it?
- I realize state tax collection isn't in the same class as toxic waste
- disposal or oil tanker operation, but it's nice to see a corporation
- with a little moral character.

- I seriously doubt it. It was a legitimate tax (short of having the law
- overturned, anyway) and it's almost certainly been paid to the state by
- now. Feel free to petition the state for it, though.
