- Title: Good news to EXOS 205 and LAN WorkPlace 3.5 users.
-
- Microdyne is happy to announce that the EXOS 205 and the related
- software products are being supported, and that new development for
- this ultra reliable intelligent Network Adapter for the PC market is
- going on.
-
- Microdyne acquired the rights to the hardware and related software
- products from Novell in 1991. Since then we have done the following:
-
- 1: Developed an compatible upgrade to the EXOS 205 called the EXOS
- 305, it has more than twice the speed, more memory, and costs much
- less than the 205.
-
- 2: Made a support release of EXOS Net Station 3.6, based on the former
- LAN WorkPlace 3.5 software, with several enhancements. This includes a
- socket based SDK for third party applications.
-
- 3: Provided a complete SMB based Network Operating System called
- "TCP/IP Host Utilities", that includes among others printer spooling
- services, and dedicated and non-dedicated file server.
-
- 4: Developed a new Software Development Kit: "NX6 SDK" for the EXOS
- 205 and 305. NX6 is the on-board kernel (OS). This SDK makes it easy
- to develop applications for or port applications to the board, running
- under the control of NX6. NX6 is a PC version of the Network eXecutive
- for the EXOS 200 and 300 family of "big bus" intelligent network
- adapters. This SDK will make it easy to port existing custom EXOS 200
- or 300 based applications to the EXOS 305, to be used in PC based DOS,
- WINDOWS or UNIX systems.
-
- In the works, we have:
-
- 1: A soon to come software release, EXOS Net Station 3.7, that adds
- support for PopMail, a TurboVision based email application from
- University of Minnesota, a WINDOWS
- "look and feel" FTP that allows for drag and drop between the FTP and
- the WINDOWS File Manager, and several other improvements.
-
- 2: A later release that includes more support for standard WINDOWS
- applications, for third party applications through WINSOCK and
- Berkeley Sockets, and on board support for other transport protocols
- and standard driver interfaces.
-
- If you have an EXOS 205 in your PC, you may have noticed that your PC
- survives in a hostile environment, when "dumb card" based PC's often
- go down. Therefore, if you and your business depend upon your PC being
- alive, you are probably interested in staying with the 205, or to get
- a new 305. To get more information on these products, and why smart
- cards are so reliable in a DOS environment, please send Internet email
- to:
-
- "info@microdyne.com"
-
- and we will be happy to update you further on the products available,
- and the direction of the product line. If possible, please indicate
- the version of software and hardware you are using, and what
- applications or services you depend on, now and in the future.
-
- Microdyne also sells and support the other EXOS hardware and software
- products, plus a full range of other high performance connectivity
- products, such as non-intelligent Ethernet adapters, FDDI and CDDI for
- ISA and EISA, NetWare Access products, and more. We will be happy to
- send you information on these products also.
