  13. Just adding to the plethora of cheery reports of kidnappings, killings
  14. and abandonments ...

  16. This New Year in New York is marred by the kidnapping of a young girl.
  17. Soon after she was last seen, her grandmother got a call from her,
  18. saying something like, "He's got a knife ... he's coming."  The police
  19. have found the payphone the call was made from, but that's about all
  20. they've got.

  22. However, this is New York, where such events seem concentrated.  Happy
  23. New Year to you all; we're watching the Rose Bowl parade.
