- In re Ruth's "jumping eyes":
-
- I have had this same problem all my life. The way they put it in the
- ophthamologist's office is esotropia, which is to say that my vision is
- not fused. It was surgically corrected in 1973 (I also had strabismus,
- which is high-falutin' talk for crossed eyes), but regressed when I ws in
- high school because of the strain put on my eyes by my contact lenses.
-
- Today I couldn't wear contacts unless I had the surgery again, and since
- it consists of detaching the muscles from the eyeball, adjusting it and
- reattaching them, I think I'll pass. My prescription is worse for one eye
- than the other, and I have to have a prism in my right lens in order to
- focus the highest amount of light into my pupil.
-
- But you know, when you've been wearing glasses since you were three, it
- ceases to be a big deal by this point.
